South Ayrshire String Orchestra - Tapestry Partnership Conference

South Ayrshire String Orchestra

Members of the South Ayrshire String Orchestra took part in the opening session of The Tapestry Partnership Conference in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. They performed a varied programme to a packed hall and were very well received by the delegates.

Ayrshire has a long tradition of high quality string playing, dating back to the early 1950's. The South Ayrshire String Orchestra is formed, after audition, from pupils in 2nd-6th year. They meet for two weekend rehearsals in the splendid surroundings of The Dolphin House, part of the Culzean Castle Estate.

Last session 2008/9 saw performances of "Gloria" by Vivaldi, in conjunction with Ayrshire Voices, Symphony no 104 by Haydn, as part of the South Ayrshire Chamber Orchestra concert and the cello concerto by Georg Monn in the “Trinity Guildhall Scottish Showcase”. They were also fortunate to have worked with composer John Maxwell Geddes, in a series of rehearsals and a performance of his work "Dances at Threave".

Later in session 2009/10 they will perform Zadok the Priest, Ave Verum and Laudate Dominum from the Solemn Vespers by Mozart, again with Ayrshire Voices.
