RSAM RSAMD Musicworks (previously RSAMD YouthWorks) have been working towards creating a continuum of qualifications, under-graduate to masters level, for instrumental and vocal teachers. These developments have already seen the successful validation and piloting of a Graduate Certificate in Instrumental Teaching. This pilot ran in Stornoway, Western Isles between 2004 and 2008. Four students graduated in July 2008.
This initial work has lead to the outlining of a full range of courses which will be available on a full-time, part-time and distance basis and deliverable as CPD modules towards one of the larger qualification. A presentation was given to the Head of Instrumental Teachers Scotland in Balleter in November. You will find a copy of the powerpoint presentation here .
In order to allow us to ensure that these courses fit both the employers and the individual teachers needs we have constructed the attached questionnaire to allow us to gather information which will allow us to create:
• A standardized job description for Instrumental and Vocal Teachers (in order to construct the most appropriate course for the training of these teachers) • Benchmark statements in regards to expected knowledge and understanding of qualified Instrumental Teachers • Course content which that is full and relevant within all degrees and in turn all CPD courses.
I would appreciate if you could complete this questionnaire in full and return it to me on the details below no later than the 29th of January 2009. Please feel free to circulate it widely to friends, colleagues and fellow teachers as the more input we receive the better.
I look forward to hearing from you all and to keeping you informed of these developments over the next two years.
Best wishes
Christopher Gray Head of RSAMD Musicworks Head of Instrumental Teacher Training 0141 270 8386
